The Great Land Run in 1889 is where the unassigned lands were opened. This activity made it possible for the first Oklahoma settlers to acquire their lands. The Norman Day Parade and Festival was created to celebrate this wonderful event. The City of Norman will partial fund this festival while the other half will be funded by individuals and businesses. Then a group of volunteers will be organizing the events for this festival.

The festival will be on April 17 and April 18, 2009. The 89er Wagon Train Association will be on April 17, 2009 from 7; 00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. Then on April 18 starting from 10:00 A.M. at the Downtown area of Norman Oklahoma there will be a 89er Day parade. Then at noon the Blue Grass Festival will start at the Moore Lindsay Historical Museum.

The city of Norman got its name from an 1870 young surveyor Abner Norman who was commissioned to survey the Oklahoma territory. His crew burned the name Normans Camp on tree where they had their camps. When the first settlers came they saw these signs and just decided to keep the name Norman for its town.

The 89'er Wagon Train Association is composed of The Sooner, Teamsters & Trail Riders Association which holds a wagon train ride every April and one in September for the past 31 years. The train travels either on horseback, muleback, wagon or buggy from one camp area to another through the beautiful countryside of Oklahoma. Etched deep into my memory is the first day I watched a ventriloquist performance. Ukulele Chords: Playing A Minor

In this part of our series on beginner ukulele chords we'll be looking at spicing up chord progressions through the use of minor chords.

To that end, we'll be using this article to learn our first minor chord to add to the major chords we've looked at already.

Minor Chords

Minor chords are most recognizable as being 'sad' chords. Whereas major chords tend to be associated with a 'happy sound'.

To change a chord from being major to being minor takes just one note: the third.

In a major chord, one of the notes that makes up the chord is the note four frets higher than the root note. For example, in a C chord the third note is an E and the C chord contains an E.

The only difference with a minor chord is that the third note is only three frets over the root (that is one fret lower than in the major chord). So if the root is A, the minor third will be three frets higher: C.

Fretting the A Minor Chord

The big advantage of the A minor chords is that it only takes one finger to play it.

You play an A minor chord by putting your middle finger on the G string (the one closest to your head) at the second fret. All the other strings are played open.

When you first play the A minor chord you might find that the underside of your middle finger is catching on the C string and stopping it sounding. Be really careful this doesn't happen as it is the C note that gives the chord its minor sound.

You'll often see the A minor chord referred to as Am for short.

A minor is known as the relative minor of C. So if you wanted to write a chord progression in the key of Am you could use all the chords that we have discussed so far in this series with that progression and they will work together and sound good.

The acting industry is a tough industry to get into. It is very competitive and cut-throat and unless you have some real talent and a good agent to represent you, you might not make it into the industry. There is hope for you though, if you are one hundred percent confident that you want to be an actor and won't stop until your dream has been fulfilled, there are some things that you can do to position yourself for success. I will go into each of these below.

1- You need to start training NOW! Work hard at it every day and don't stop no matter how good you think you are getting or how good others say that you are. Practice and work makes perfect.

2- Become a student. You should study the industry in depth. Learn how everything works. You should know exactly who casts what and what certain agents look for in an actor. Knowing these things will help you know what you need to do to get in.

3- This is very important; you need to figure out what your type of acting is. Pick a niche or genera and go for it.

4- Again, become a student. You need to learn the basics of business, professional networking, and how to market yourself. Self promotional skills are very important in the acting industry.

5- Learn how to audition. You may not believe it, but auditioning and acting on a set are two completely different things. If you can learn how to audition, you will be one step ahead of your competition.

6- I have always believed that in order to be successful in anything, you need to surround yourself with successful people. It is the same in the acting world. Seek out people who are already acting and are already in the industry. Stay away from those exactly like you, I mean those trying to get into the industry.

7- Talk to both actors who are currently acting. You should also talk to actors who have been aspiring to break into the industry for the last few years. You can learn a lot from both groups of people. Once you learn what to and what not to do, you will be much better off.

8- Always be humble and willing to learn. Once you think you know it all, you are setting yourself up for failure.

9- Once you start to understand what you are doing and start to see success, you should take the time to help others who are in the same position that you were once in. You will see that it will pay off for you in the long run.

If you truly take the time to start practicing these things on a regular basis, you will begin to move yourself into a position to more likely be discovered. If you let anything or any excuse stop you from becoming an actor, which simply means that it is not the industry for you. You should always be self evaluating yourself and make sure this is what you want. If you don't have a strong passion or burning desire to do this, you will never make it.

Although many may disagree, I think that the best sci fi can affect us in ways that are beneficial to all of society. Sometimes, it can even guide our thinking, helping us to new levels of creativity that we might otherwise not have achieved.

Main stream literature can inspire as well, but it usually only deals with the standard tropes of life, death, and how we deal with them. It is often so concerned with realism that it neglects imagination.

The best sci fi, however, can enlarge our perceptions and help us follow new avenues of thought. It can help us imagine what an artificial intelligence might be like. Or a species from another planet. In doing so, it also helps us look at ourselves in new ways.

Creativity can also be enhanced. Think of the influence Jules Verene and his 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea had on submarine designers. It's not a coincidence that the first nuclear submarine was named the Nautilus.

Traditional tales rarely explore the human experience in as many different ways as science fiction does. They are constrained by convention, and this often stifles the opportunity to let the imagination run wild.

Any writer that can create a world or an alien from scratch, and make it seem real, must have the same skills as any regular author. They should be taken just as seriously, and not dismissed because they choose to write in a different genre.

Too many critics often dismiss stories that aren't totally based on facts and reality. This is a shame, because they are missing the point of good story telling.

The point of all fiction, no matter what genre, is to convince readers that an imagined world or series of events is real. It makes no sense to shun stories that don't take place in the actual world, because all stories are essentially "made up."

For these reasons, it should be apparent that all fiction, no matter what genre it happens to adhere to, is an effort to change or escape reality. The most talented authors will also teach us some valuable lessons about ourselves along the way.

The innovation and creativity that the best sci fi offers the literary world should not be underestimated. More serious study should be given to this unique form of literature.

As our State's official sport, holding jousting events now and then is just a usual, though still quite special, experience here in Maryland. A Charlie Chaplin Bio

The infamous Charlie Chaplin was born to parents of whom both were themselves entertainers. As a result, Charlie took to the stage early on in life. Born in Walworth, London in the UK back in April of 1889, by the time he reached the young age of merely five years old he had to get on the stage in order to sing a song in place of his dear mother due to a recent illness she had succumbed to.

From that point forward, Charlie was an entertainer himself. By the time he reached the fine young age of 8 years old, he was already on tour with a musical entitled The Eight Lancaster Lads. Soon after this he would make his appearance in Giddy Ostende where he played upon the stage at the London Hippodrome.

It was Fred Karno who would invite Charlie to join his English Vaudeville Troupe, where he would stay until he reached the age of 24. This of course also coincided with the troupe's arrival in New York City. Along with Mack Sennet, Charlie would head off to Hollywood where he would start his new career as an actor and a director.

Charlie Chaplin was making films in no time. He was making a lot of them too. Starting ff with his first film which was known as Making a Living, he would go on to make 35 more films with the same studio. After leaving Mack Sennet, he would join up with Essanay and play in 14 films followed by a stint with mutual for an additional 12 films. His next step was moving to First National who would later get bought out by the Warner Brothers Studio. Shortly after this acquisition, Charlie Chaplin along with D.W. Griffith, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford would start up the United Artists and create Charlie's first full-length film, The Kid.

Of course while everyone loved Charlie Chaplin and his films, there were those who did not. The U.S. Authorities were on the lookout for communist activities and were focusing on the motion picture industry. It was during this time that they accused Charlie of spreading communism by using his films. Shortly afterwards he went to Switzerland to where he released only 2 more films. The last film is what put an end to his career. Entitled A Countess from Hong Kong and released in 1967, this movie flopped in the box offices and was the only failure in his entire career. On Christmas day of 1977, Charlie Chaplin would pass away.

Jumper: During a near death experience, David Rice (Hayden Christensen) learns something incredible. He now knows he can transport himself to anywhere he desires to be, anytime he wants. He then comes to learn that he is not alone in having this capability. After years of "jumping" around the planet, he learns that there are people that think jumpers are a threat, and need to be eliminated. He now must battle for his life, as those people believe he should die.

BOLT: Bolt: This movie is an animated family comedy. The star is dog actor Bolt, who in his role on television, has superpowers. His problem is that he really thinks he has these powers. After he is unexpectedly finds himself in a real world situation, he realizes that he is only a normal dog. Needing to find his way home, he is aided by a cat named Mittens, and an overweight hampster named Rhino.

THE CHRONICALS OF NARNIA, PRINCE CASPIAN: It is one year later, in "real" time, when Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are teleported back to Narnia. Fearing for his life Prince Caspian has blownn the magic horn, hoping to be saved. In Narnia, 1,300 years have passed since they were Kings and Queens, but the four legendary characters have be summoned back to save Narnia from the evil Telmarines. With the support of the brave warriors of Narnia, they will fight for the future of Narnia.

WANTED: Wesley Gibson is about to learn that the father he never knew, is a contract killer. His father has been murdered, now Wesley is asked to join into the organization that his dead father was involved with. He now will become the killing expert that that he was destined to become. THE DARK KNIGHT: This time Batman, along with Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, have been taking down the criminal elements of the city. Crime is now down, but now a new super criminal arrives on the scene, and attacks the city. Now, Batman really has his hands full, as the Joker has unleashed his criminal plots on the big city.

TWENTY ONE: The basis for this film is the actual tale about M.I.T. students who built a team of blackjack winners. This team of blackjack players prepared and then enacted a brilliant run at the blackjack tables. To beat the games in Vegas, where card counting can get you banned, they had to change casinos often, and disguise themselves, so the wouldn't get caught. This movie is based on the best selling book that explains how these kids made millions playing blackjack.

10,000 B.C.: This cinematic production sends us back to prehistoric times. When rival hunters storm the Yaghai people, they kidnap the beautiful Evolet. A strong young hunter, D'Leh, who is in love with her, organizes a band of hunters to chase down these warmongers, and rescue Evolet and the others.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS: Wild and crazy nights in Las Vegas are normal. Barely remembering what had happened, Jack and Joy wake up to discover that they are married. They wind up winning a large jackpot at the slot machines, but each thinks they deserve the prize, so they try to settle it in court. It is decided that they must stay together for six months, and give their marriage a chance. With an eye on the jackpot, they each try to get the other to give up, as both desire to have the cash for themselves.

WALL-E: This picture is a science fiction adventure in animation. Everyone has been removed from Earth because it had become a big pile of trash. Wall-E, a robot built to remove trash, has been left behind to clean up the mess. Years later, when a robot namend Eve shows up searching for any signs of life, Wall-E is finally not alone. When the spaceship returns for Eve, Wall-E stows away, and begins an exciting new life.

Often when we are only half listening to a conversation, watching television, or are just plain bored, we start scribbling on the nearest thing to hand. This is a totally natural thing to do and we have all done it at some time or another without giving it another thought. Here we are doodling. Yes we are drawing.

We all started experimenting freely when we were very young, so really this should be a natural progression. Yes we all find ourselves scribbling on a daily basis for sure, without rhyme or reason. Our imagination and creativity knowing no bounds. Art is a natural way we find of expressing ourselves and this is why I personally believe that we should all be able to draw and paint.

You could say that you are well on you way now. Carry on with your doodles using different styles. Believe me, you can work on them and stretch them much further than your bus or supermarket ticket. You need to darken some areas for effect to produce some highlights.

Just take children for instance. They absolutely love drawing, they have great fun experimenting with shapes. True we are fascinated with what they come up with. We like to see how they view the world even if we are not too impressed. However they in turn expect us to draw all kinds of things to our absolute horror.

Felt tip pens were a good invention. Especially the non toxic ones, whether used by adults or children. Fortunately they come in different thickness's so they can be used for a multitude of things. Kids love and spend many happy hours experimenting with poster paints.

Granted, they might paint themselves into the bargain, but what fun they have. The only drawback I can see is you need to discourage them from painting on your walls!

They delight filling in colouring books with their wax crayons. I am sure that they must sometimes find it quite hard with their tiny little fingers too using chalks on a little slate or child's blackboard.

Quite honestly I can say that one of my favourite occupations is people watching, this is something everybody does. Yes, observing people in all types of situations. Whether it is from a pavement cafe, on the beach, watching sport, looking at faces and expressions, could be in a bus station, or how people move. It feeds us, though we may not be aware of it at the time.

It stands to reason authors do exactly the same thing watching people, and their ways of going about things how they view life etc. This helps to create pictures form in their minds. These little clips of everyday life are kept for the writer to probably find a use for eventually.

Maybe you still have carried an image with you that you have spotted somewhere, this can now be your personal subject. Who knows what the picture might be that you now want to portray. But now this is your chance.

So, now, do not hold back! Get started let your emotions and imagination go places. Do not give up, just keep at it and look at all the fun and many happy hours you can spend drawing and painting and the satisfaction of achievement.

What Type Brush Strokes For What Effect?....

How we all love to try new things! So you perhaps would like to add a new dimension to your work, which we all do from time to time. Much is to be gained by using your brushes in various types of ways which is most satisfying.

Your imagination can soon be set free by the wonderful things that appear on the page or canvas, by using different brush strokes. You, in fact, at times may realize what can be achieved with a single brush. Everything from interesting marks, patterns, textures and simple things too, like fine and heavy lines.

As an artist, you will find we are surrounded in art and craft shops by a whole host of brushes. It also often is hard deciding which ones to purchase. You can buy quite cheap brushes, but then find the wood handle splinters off as you paint, or the actual hair brushes fall out.

We all face this problem from time to time. These brushes are good for practicing with. However, different brushes are designed with a certain type of particular stroke in mind. As an example, to produce lines that gradually peter out, a brush with a fine point is ideal. Good too, for filling in parts with very fine detailing.

The flat brush has many bristles and appears to be very square in its actual shape. Very different to a fine brush, as you will find, they will let you fill up with lots of paint as they are with plentiful bristles. This being so, there is little need to keep refilling with paint. They also have the added advantage of covering substantial areas with a flat look.

With so many brushes to choose from just look at the unusual effects that you can make. However, I do think that we all have our favourite brushes. After all they are the tools of your trade!

Experiment, experiment, experiment and see what you can do with these brushes. You will find it is so easy to get carried away and the time flies by without you realising.

New effects are what you want, different styles for your work maybe? You develop your own personal style naturally enough, but often we do find we do need change. Try using the brush in other ways, on it's side for instance, not always the point. Then apply more or less accordingly.

Personally I love acrylic and oil paints for my work. They appear to give you such flexibility. Being able to use them straight from the tube, you can use them so well for giving you dynamic, swirl like, strokes with a thicker brush. Great for water scenes too.

How about just painting with a dry brush? This is something I have tried occasionally with the background still visible. Other people, I find, manage to complete paintings simply by using dots. A flexible, flat brush is required to do this.

A stab type movement of the brush will at times make up a whole painting. Simply good too, are pictures made by only using a brush that is dry. You do not always need to cover all the page or canvas. Let the white be seen sometimes.

Basically, how you use the brush, can make the difference with or without weight behind it. Also the type of brush, flat brush, dry brush, fine brush etc. The finish is down to you. You can do dabs, dots, dashes alternately, swirls to make and ,of course, your color choice helps to give variance of tone.

A light touch is needed to do thin lines, but should you wish to do thick lines more pressure is needed. We are born tryer's so just do that!

A drum set usually has two tom-toms, mounted, a tom-tom on the floor, a snare drum, and a bass drum. They do not include cymbals, because those who manufacture drums do not manufacture cymbals because they are usually sold separately. You might want to consider to wait in the beginning before you buy the cymbals if the noise factor is going to be a problem for you.

Cymbal kits usually start with a couple of 14-inch cymbals, a 16-inch "crash" cymbal, and a 20-inch cymbal. And now a question for the cool ages: can a T-shirt by any other name still smell as sweet? Am I odd? Am I obsessed, to a fault, with comfort? Have I gone off the deep end with my single-minded, heated obsession with the glorious, humble T-shirt? Perhaps. I have a problem, I can admit that. But if you grew up watching James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Monty Clift slouching about, screaming in the rain, and looking fragile, youd have a fixed obsession with this piece of clothing too.

Through the shrouded fog of modern history, I would say there are a handful of iconic articles of clothing. You can count them on one had " maybe two. Theres the Schott biker jacket, Levis jeans, Members Only windbreakers, Converse All Stars, and then " drum roll, please " the glorious T. Now, Im sure some of you fashionistas could expand my list " more power to you. You could twist my arm and add Doc Martens, pea coats, and even the trusty wing tip, but my aim here is to make it very clear how much I love the simplest of garments, this under-vest, this England.

The rightful definition of a T-shirt is very specific. Dont let the big guys fool you (read as Hanes or FTL) into thinking anything thats not a button-down Oxford qualifies as a training shirt. It doesnt. A tank top is just that " not a T-shirt! A long-sleeved T-shirt is not a T-shirt; its a knit shirt. Or something like that. There is no such thing as a short or long or collar T! Anything longer or shorter than the classic crew neck (I will give you the V neck) is something else.

By and large, a T-shirt is made out of cotton (sometimes polyester, sometimes both) that is knitted together with a jersey stitch, which gives this godly garment its distinct, unrivaled texture. Ah, the sweet relief of sliding on a fresh clean T " you would be hard pressed to find such a singular sensation. I dare you! It is the ultimate in comfort, despite some formalists who decry the T as some kind of symbol of the degradation of the Western world. The fall of Rome, signified by the proliferation of the lowly T-shirt. Preposterous.

Sweet T-shirt, my love, my life! These ingenious garments create what people in ad agencies call human billboards. Yes, the corporate grubs love to silkscreen their logos and slogans on finely knitted T-shirts, but lets not forget how the T can be the most powerful grass roots tool. All you need is a felt-tip pen (I suggest a Sharpie) and your Philosophy 101 book thats been collecting dust in the basement. Presto-bingo: instant slogan and social relevance. Hopefully. Cool T-shirts are whim away. Get whimsical!

HD video cameras and the HD technology is gaining the upper hand in the industry. The prices of high definition video cameras may be higher than its standard counterparts but with each new hd model coming out, consumers are finding even more reasons to buy it anyway. You may wonder what makes an HD video camera different from the rest of the cameras out there. Don't worry! We'll get to that soon. First, let's talk a little about how it all started.

The History of HD Video Cameras

JVC, Sonay Corporation, Canon Inc. and Sharp Corporation are the leading developers of the HDV (High Definition Video) format. The huge investors at that time were JVC and Sony. You may say that these four companies were the first companies that offered the consumers HD video cameras. Nowadays, there are other companies that also make HDV hardware products, except Sharp.

The first HD video camera was released by JVC. Their first camcorder was the JVC GR-HD1. It allowed the user to use a standard DV or a HDV using the old 601 color space standard rather than the newer 709 standard. And because of this, and other limitations of the camera, the GR-HD1 did not gain popularity as expected. JVC then shifted their HDV development to shoulder mounted cameras.

Sony was next to release their Sony HDR-FX1 camcorder on September 2004. Even though it was the second HDV camcorder to be released, it was the first of its kind to gain widespread popularity.

What happened after is history. Canon released a number of models in the market that were said to be for both consumers and prosumers. Their popular models are Canon XLH1, XHA1, XHG1, HV10, and HV20.

Come 2007, most companies have already released their own consumer HD camcorder. The leading manufacturers were Sony, Canon, Panasonic and JVC. Sony is currently in the lead because of its wide selection of models to choose from. Canon, Panasonic and JVC on the other hand may known be in the lead but are manufacturing multiple models for both consumers and professionals. However, the best HDV camcorder for the year 2007 in relation to performance must be awarded to Canon and then followed by Sony. Canon's HV20 model allowed the manufacturing company to take the top spot in HDV camcorder manufacturing.

Editing Your HDV

HDV uses MPEG2 compression to fit HD content onto the same DV or Mini DV tapes. In this sense, they are somewhat difficult to edit. Splicing HDV for example, will distort the video at splice points because of the interdependencies between groups of video frames.

There's more. Editing HDV files also forces the computer system to work harder to perform simple tasks of cutting and splicing since the frames in the video do not actually exist as independent cells. So some frames may have to be rebuilt.

What can you do then? There are advantages to editing HD videos by using a Lossless Intermediate. The result is that the file will increase and you will need a bigger storage for your videos in your hard drive.

Despite its disadvantages and limits, HD Video Cameras are still the most widely used cameras for independent video productions. They can be used for professionals or consumers who are interested in making films, and other non-studio applications like news, and documentaries.

Likewise, you may go through one charge cycle per month to keep the battery maintained. To do this, charge it up to 100% and then let the charge drain entirely down to zero percent. padlock your phone when you're not using it, and keep power draining activities, such as gaming, to a average level. Practicing these things can keep your battery functioning at an optimum level.

Six. Part of maintaining and protecting your iPhone is cleaning it. To clean it, begin with turning off your iPhone for safety purpose, then use the cleaning cloth that came with it. If that is not available, you could use any soft, lint-free cloth. Get it somewhat damp, but not too wet. Don't use any cleaning solvents, alcohol, household cleaners, window cleaners or abrasives. Be certain you dont get any moisture in any of the openings.

When your smoker comes up to the desired temperature, put the butt in the smoker fatty side up and smoke until it is good and soft. By placing it fat side up you grant the fat juices a chance to soak all through the meat. You might need to rotate it and swab it every couple hours or so. Typical smoking time is an hour and 10 minutes per pound, or around 8-10 hours. When the pork butt is fork tender it is done. Verify for tenderness and temperature in the meat area under or above the bone.

Every year In a Little Town in New York called Ridge, On a Big Sandbar known as Long Island, Hundreds of Bikers who have only Antique Motorcycles on their minds. Gather to attend The Big Sandbar Chapter of The Antique Motorcycle Club of America,Inc's annual "Winter Blues Swap meet" at the Ridge Firehouse. As I entered I was greeted by two lovely Lady's. I told them who I was and they where happy to tell me about the Big Sandbar Chapter of the AMCA. I was told how the AMCA considers any Motorcycle 35 years or older an Antique.

Being I am a few years older then 35 and not feeling anything like an Antique, I'm thinking maybe it should be moved up to like 55 years an older! After all they say 50 is the new 30!

I also found out The Big Sandbar Chapter prides itself on being very Family Friendly, many of the Members are made up of Husbands and Wives and even some of their Kids. Many of the Big Sandbar Chapters events are Designed so the whole family can enjoy them together!

Of Course you Don't need to be Married with Children to be a member of the Big Sandbar Chapter of the AMCA! All you need is a love for Antique Motorcycles and live anywhere in their coverage area which is from Montauk to Manhattan. The Chapter meets six times a year and is Well known for it's Annual May Swap Meet at the Fireman's Park in Ridge!

The spot healing brush made its debut in Photoshop Elements 3, but now an enhanced version of it is available in Photoshop CS2. The spot healing tool is different from the existing patch and healing tools in that it does not require you to make a selection or define a source point before using it.

To begin, open your Photoshop program, then hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift in Windows or Command-Option-Shift for Mac OS. This restores the default preferences. Click on "Yes," which resets, and then close the screen. Open an image file inside Photoshop, then make a duplicate layer to work on. This is one of the best habits you can develop for working with Photoshop; once you're used to editing only on a copy of the original, you will see that it's easy and worth it.

You'll see a variety of preset gradients displayed, from the default Foreground to Background gradient to the more complex Chrome gradient. All these preset gradients can be edited to create new gradients. You'll notice that some gradients have more colour 'stops' than others; the Foreground to Background gradient has two colour stops - black and white - while the Spectrum gradient has seven colour stops. You can modify a gradient by changing the colour of the stops - simply click on one and choose a new colour from the Color Picker. Alternatively, click on an image and sample a colour for your customised gradient using the Eyedropper Tool.

Image Adjustments: No doubt you'll need to tweak things such as levels and colour values on occasion.
