Outfits at Maryland Craft Shows

By Vermont Findhorn

As our State's official sport, holding jousting events now and then is just a usual, though still quite special, experience here in Maryland. No longer real knights, the participants nevertheless enjoy this contact sport in horseback. Of course, the International Jousting Association has implemented safer rules compared to how it was done centuries ago; meaning the sport is no longer bloodthirsty like it was before. These days, it is just a fun, physical event.

Some of these events become even more fun, as they mimic the very atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Nothing modern is allowed inside, and people come in clothes appropriate for that time. When these events do this, the whole place transforms into a snapshot of an era gone; an era when knights in their mighty steeds saved the princess in a tower.

It stands to reason, then, that you will need the right outfit for the occasion. Don't worry if you don't have one prepared; you can go to these events in your plain clothes. Once there, though, go to the craft shows surrounding the jousting area. Besides the crafts that imitate the art of the age, you will meet craftspeople that specialize in making outfits reminiscent of the medieval era. Have yourself fitted up with one of these clothes, or commission one to be made just for you.

So how do you get to these events, you ask? Go to the Internet. A simple search for Craft Shows in Maryland will direct you to a websites that lists down all such events. Find the appropriate jousting-related event there, and you'll be well on your way.

So what are you waiting for? Be part of this wonderful tradition stemming back from the middle ages! Watch warriors in plate mail duke it out against each other in monumental clashes, and get involved with the craft shows!
